Support the Children

I used all my frequent flier miles to get my dad a First-Class ticket to Beirut in April 2006. He called me when he arrived and told me that First-Class was definitely the way to fly. It was his first and last time flying First-Class. My dad died in our home in Lebanon on August 10, 2006.

To channel my grief, I’ve been raising money for the orphanages in Lebanon in my dad’s memory. Every year, I run the Salt Lake City Half Marathon to raise money. The race was canceled this year. But, the orphanages still need money. I have been reluctant to ask because everyone is struggling right now and there are so many worthy causes to support.

But, yesterday, there was an explosion in Beirut and, instead of feeling helpless and hopeless, I want to do something.

I can pray and I will.

But, I can do more. I can send them money to buy food and supplies.

But, I can still do more.

This is the part that I don’t like – asking you for money. But, I will swallow my pride and do it anyway, because the children I support are more important than my pride.
